Juba, 20 September 2021 (TDI): Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations at UN Peacekeeping, met with Women leaders from South Sudan to talk about women’s participation in public affairs and United Nations support to bring reforms.
The core idea of the meeting was to assure at least 35% of women’s participation in political, governance, and security structures as per the peace agreement in South Sudan. The Under-Secretary-General spoke and discussed with the women leaders hankering compliance towards the United Nations that how the UN can play a role for security reforms in South Sudan.
Along with it, the discussions were also directed towards constitution-making and the role of women. Lastly, the meeting shed light on election reforms and enhanced women’s participation in politics and governance.
