New York, 29 May 2023 (TDI): United Nations (UN) is celebrating the International Day of Peacekeepers today. On the occasion of the day, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the UN peacekeepers are a hope for people to live under the conditions of conflict and called for their recognition.

The UN blue helmets are the beating heart of our commitment to a more peaceful world. Said the UN Chief. He added that for 75 years, the UN Peacekeepers have supported communities rocked by conflict.

Since 1948 more than two million peacekeepers have served under the UN flag and have contributed greatly to helping war-torn countries in navigating a path from war to peace.

The peacekeeping troops are also credited with saving the lives of civilians in conflicts across the globe.

Pakistan is the sixth largest contributor of troops to the UN peacekeeping missions. In 1960 Pakistan contributed troops to the UN peacekeeping mission in Congo for the first time.
