8 June 2021: The UK minister for the MENA region James Cleverly is on an official visit to Tunisia. The visit seeks in developing strong bilateral relations between Tunisia and United Kingdom. On his visit, James cleverly met with the Tunisian Secretary of State Mohamed Ali Nafti for the first UK- Tunisia Association Council. Both the states seek to enhance bilateral cooperation with each other in the fields of trade, security, environment, research, and human rights.
James Cleverly also visited the Tunisian parliament and met with the speaker and different members of parliament. He appreciated the democratic system in Tunisia and highlighted UK’s cooperation in Tunisia’s 10 years’ democratic journey and assured that the United Kingdom will remain a partner to Tunisia’s democratic journey.
Today in the recent meetup the UK has also signed a scientific research collaboration deal with Tunisia. Cleverly also met several Tunisian trading companies and signed new trade agreements with Tunisian olive oil companies, aiming at enhancing trade and bilateral cooperation with Tunisia. UK is also working with Tunisia to protect biodiversity and protect water ahead of COP26 i.e. UN Climate Change Conference which will take place in November this year.
