Moscow (TDI): A Ukrainian drone struck a residential high-rise building in Moscow in what Russian officials described as a rare nighttime attack, according to the city’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
Sobyanin said the drone hit a building located in the Mosfilmovskaya Street area, an upscale district near the Mosfilm studio and about 10 kilometers from the Kremlin. He added that there were no casualties reported.
He also stated that Russian air defense systems intercepted two drones targeting the capital during the night, while another drone was later shot down in the morning.
Footage broadcast by Russian state television showed damage inside an apartment, including collapsed interior walls and shattered doors.
The incident comes just days before Russia’s annual May 9 Victory Day parade, a major national event marking the defeat of Nazi Germany. This year’s parade is expected to be scaled down, with restrictions reportedly in place amid concerns over possible Ukrainian drone attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at a regional summit in Armenia, suggested that security concerns in Moscow reflect weakness, referring to Russia’s decision to limit military displays during the event.
Ukraine has carried out repeated drone strikes inside Russia throughout the ongoing war, mainly targeting infrastructure such as oil refineries, fuel depots, and ports. However, strikes reaching central Moscow remain relatively uncommon due to the city’s layered air defense systems.
