Washington (TDI): French President Emmanuel Macron has conveyed to the United States that Ukraine’s peace does not come at the cost of its surrender.
He arrived in Washington, on Monday, to meet President Donald Trump and to reaffirm his support for Ukraine on the “third anniversary of Russian invasion against Ukraine.”
During his meeting with the French President, the Trump expressed hope that the war between Russia and Ukraine is close to an end.
President Emmanuel Macron cautioned Trump that any future agreement with Russia “does not amount to surrender” for Ukraine.
He also commended President Trump on his decision to work with President Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and acknowledged that the European countries need to do more to provide economic and military assistance to Ukraine.
At the same time, he also warned President Trump against capitulating to Russia.
President Macron also said that the US-Russia negotiations on Ukraine “must not mean a ceasefire without guarantees. The peace must allow for Ukrainian sovereignty.”
After the Russian operation in Kyiv’s suburb of Bucha, France had cut off any direct lines of communication with Russia.
He expressed hope that the communications between the United States and Russia bring “fruitful results.”
Macron also said that the United States and the European countries should not appear “weak in the face of President Putin.”

He also attended the G7 meeting, held on the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, via a video conference from the White House.

President Trump said that “France is America’s oldest ally” and the purpose of the meeting is to “End another war – a very horrible one.”
He called the war “The deadliest and most destructive conflict, since the Second World War.”
Trump said that he was saddened by the loss of both “Russian and Ukrainian men,” who had died during this three-year war.
The US President further stated that he discussed the this war with both President Putin and President Zelenskyy and is hopeful for the resolution of the conflict.
The ultimate goal is to achieve a ceasefire and permanent peace, he added.
Both Macron and Trump agreed that the cost burden of securing the peace must be shared by the nations of Europe, and not by the United States alone.
While speaking to the G7 leaders, President Trump criticized the Biden Administration and said that the Russia-Ukraine war would never have started if he were the President of the United States.
He also emphasized the significance of the “Critical Minerals and Rare-Earth Deal” between Ukraine and the United States and called it an “Economic Partnership” between the two countries.
Trump further said that he will be meeting with President Zelenskyy this or the next week to sign the agreement.
Furthermore, he informed the G7 leaders about the progression of Russia-US talks.

Trump said that he has discussed ending the Russia-Ukraine war with President Vladimir Putin, and the talks are proceeding well.
It is important to note that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also attended the G7 meeting on Monday,

On the anniversary of Russian attack on Ukraine, all the Nordic-Baltic States leaders visited Ukraine, extending their unending support to Ukraine.
President Zelenskyy appreciated and thanked the Nordic-Baltic States for the €26 billion in military aid provided to Ukraine over the three years of Russia’s full-scale aggression, as well as for the investments in their domestic production.
