London (TDI): The British Government has pledged £160 million to aid Syria’s stability and recovery, in the post-Assad regime. The announcement was made by the British Government, on Monday, at the Annual Syria Pledging Conference in Brussels.
According to the British Government, the aid will be delivered through trusted UN and NGO partners and will provide life-saving support to millions of Syrians, including refugees across the region, to help them rebuild their lives and livelihoods.
Under the current British “Government’s Plan for Change,” ensuring long-term stability in Syria is necessary for the protection of the UK’s security interests. As a result, the British government has committed to play a decisive role in Syria’s economic recovery.
“Millions of Syrians are set to benefit from lifesaving aid from the UK and international partners, supporting them to rebuild their lives and stabilize the country following the fall of the brutal Assad regime late last year,” the British government said on Monday.

According to the British Minister for the Middle East, Hamish Falconer, “A stable Syria is vital for ensuring our security at home and abroad, which is critical for delivering our Plan for Change.”
The Minister also stated, “Today’s pledge of up to £160m underlines our commitment to helping Syrians stabilize and rebuild their country, as well as provide lifesaving aid for Syrians hosted generously in partner countries.”
The aid will be directed towards providing Syrians with basic necessities, such as safe drinking water, food, healthcare, and education in 2025.
While discussing the internal conflicts in Syria, Minister Hamish Falconer called the violence in coastal areas earlier this month as “horrific.”
He urged the interim authorities of Syria to demonstrate their intent to promote stability, protect minorities and govern in the interests of all Syrians.
Furthermore, he welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the interim authorities labelling it as an important step in the right direction.

Earlier this month, the UK lifted asset freezes on 24 Syrian entities including the Central Bank of Syria, Syrian Arab Airlines, and energy companies, to help the country rebuild their country and economy.
According to the British government, the move highlights the commitment of their country to help the people of Syria rebuild their country and economy, including through support for a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition process.
The UK, however, did not lift the sanction on members of the Assad regime as well as the people accused of being involved in “illicit trade.”
