UK Partnership Brings 250-bed Hospital Facility to Islamabad

Islamabad (TDI): UK’s Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has signed a ground-breaking agreement with Islamabad’s Novacare Hospital to enable hospital planning, clinical training, and staff development.

It is the NHS Trust’s first agreement with a Pakistani healthcare organization, with the aim of bringing UK-standard healthcare skills to Pakistan and reinvesting funds in the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS).

Under this collaboration, Imperial will extend technical support in core areas such as service design, staffing models, and clinical standards-compliant training. Novacare’s 250-bed hospital that is under construction in DHA Phase V, Islamabad, is expected to become operational in 2026.

It will deliver care in 28 medical specialties such as cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics, neurology, and maternal health. The hospital will also have futuristic infrastructure such as AI-optimized vertical transportation, intelligent building management systems, and advanced infection control and fall prevention technology.

The UK Trade Envoy Mohammad Yasin MP and British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott CMG OBE, conducted the site visit.

During the visit, she emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “This deal is bringing the UK’s world-leading healthcare expertise to Pakistan, and, in turn, supporting the UK’s NHS. By sharing the NHS’s most advanced clinical practices and supporting staff development, the partnership aims to improve patient outcomes and ultimately save lives.”

Under the agreement, Novacare doctors will take part in multidisciplinary team meetings, consult UK specialists for second opinions, and undergo ongoing training aligned with NHS standards.

“Complex medical cases can also be referred to Imperial’s private London centers, offering high-end treatment options for patients and additional revenue for the NHS. All Novacare affiliate fees for its operations will be recirculated to Imperial’s public health activities in the UK.

The British delegation met with the key individuals involved in the Novacare project, including CEO Johannes Kedzierski, Director Faraz Minai, Ghalib Hafiz, Mustafa Hassan, and Project Director Qaiser Rafiq. The hospital is located merely 15 minutes from Islamabad’s Blue Zone, and therefore in the prime location to be a hub for quality healthcare in the area.

The UK-Novacare collaboration is one component of a broader project to increase medical cooperation between the two nations, increase knowledge transfer, and create long-term, high-quality medical facilities in Pakistan while also offering a service to the NHS at home.
