Menengai, 8 June 2023 (TDI): The groundbreaking for the Menengai clean energy power plant took place on Thursday. This is one of the UK-Kenya Green Development projects.

Rigathi Gachagua, the deputy president of Kenya, and Jane Marriott, the British High Commissioner, were present at the groundbreaking ceremony.

This project is part of a 5-year joint agreement between the UK and Kenya. This agreement has been beneficial for both sides.

Menengai Geothermal Power Plant

This power plant will generate 35MW of energy. This will be a clean energy project and an inexpensive way to make electricity in Kenya.

This project is being built by Globeleq, a British International Investment backed company, and the cost of this project is 500bn (KES)

More than 750,000 people will be able to use this cheap electricity. This power plant is one of the six power plants that will be built as a step toward a greener world.

This Power Plant will create approximately 200 new jobs by the people and will be an opportunity for 35 to 40 private contractors.

Development in Kenya

After the joint agreement of 5 years to strengthen the bilateral ties. Both sides agreed to work on the following five agendas.

Mutual well-being, regional stability, eco-friendly development, Climate change, and cultural exchange improve the relationship between the two countries.

The United Kingdom and Kenya will also work on mutually benefiting fields like education, science, and agriculture. To make the partnership rewarding.

The Power Plant is the second project to start after the agreement, the first being the restoration of the Nairobi Railway city.

UK-based architects will be working on this project to make it high-tech and eco-friendly.

Kenya is one of the leading voices for a greener world. Kenya is rising as the global leader in climate change with the help of the United Kingdom.

The UK has many more green development projects in mind for Kenya as the geothermal power plant and Nairobi railway city.
