Two Delta Planes Collide on Atlanta Runway

ATLANTA, September 11, 2024 (TDI): Two Delta Air Lines planes collided on the runway at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Tuesday morning.

Delta Air Lines confirmed that the incident involved one of its aircraft and a regional jet during the taxiing process for departure.

An Airbus A350, heading to Tokyo, struck the tail of a smaller Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jet operated by Endeavor Air, Delta’s subsidiary. The collision caused the tail of the regional jet to topple over.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and Delta swiftly rebooked passengers on other flights. Air traffic control audio captured the incident, with the controller noting the regional jet’s severed tail and inquiring about the need for assistance.

Passengers described the collision as “very jarring,” with loud metal scraping sounds reported. Photos circulating on social media show the regional jet’s tail displaced sideways.

Delta has apologized to affected customers and announced that both aircraft will be moved to maintenance hangars.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have launched investigations into the collision. Airport officials have reported minimal disruptions to airport operations.
