Islamabad (TDI): Mobile network services were suspended in Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday, with authorities blocking all entry and exit points ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally at D-Chowk.
Despite a ban on public gatherings, incarcerated PTI chief Imran Khan urged his supporters to gather for a “peaceful protest” as his party continued preparations for the rally.
The PTI has been organizing multiple demonstrations across the country, protesting Khan’s “illegal” imprisonment, delays in Election Commission decisions, and to “protect the Constitution”.
Strict government guidelines for previous rallies in Islamabad and Lahore were not fully adhered to, resulting in clashes between PTI workers and law enforcement agencies.
The PTI shared updates on social media of its caravans departing from various cities, despite warnings from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to avoid holding a rally due to high-profile visits by foreign dignitaries.

Police sealed all roads leading to the Red Zone, including Serena, Jinnah Avenue, Nadra Square, Marriott Hotel, and Zero Point.
Entry points at Srinagar Highway, Faizabad Chowk, Sanjgani Toll Plaza, Margalla Road, and 9th Avenue were also closed.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer Khalid Hamdani confirmed that security was on high alert, pillion-riding was banned, and metro bus services were suspended indefinitely.

Other routes in Islamabad were expected to be blocked to prevent PTI workers from entering the city.
Islamabad Police reiterated on X that Section 144 was in effect and advised citizens to avoid participating in any unlawful activities.
Section 144 Imposed
On Wednesday, the Islamabad Capital Territory authorities had enforced Section 144 and the Peaceful Assembly Act, barring gatherings in restricted areas as part of heightened security measures.
Amid heavy security, PTI caravans began departing from various cities, with PTI leader Qasim Khan Suri criticizing the government for blocking roads.
KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur vowed to reach D-Chowk despite roadblocks, while the Punjab government-imposed Section 144 in multiple cities, sparking criticism from the PTI.
Imran Khan, in a message to his followers, called for a peaceful protest at D-Chowk, stating that the “battle for true freedom” was nearing its decisive phase.
