Islamabad, 4 June 2023 (TDI): In collaboration with Serena Hotels and Tabani Group, who generously provided bicycles, the Embassy of Turkmenistan organized an exhilarating cycling event in Islamabad.

On June 3, the world united in celebration of World Bicycle Day, a global event dedicated to recognizing the bicycle as a dependable and sustainable means of transportation.

The event aimed to encourage individuals from all walks of life to embrace cycling, promoting an active lifestyle and eco-friendly practices.

Starting from D-chowk and culminating at Serena Business Complex, the cycle rally brought together enthusiastic attendees who were treated to healthy refreshments.

The event witnessed the presence of esteemed members from the diplomatic community, corporate sector, media personnel, and associates of Serena Hotels.

The Chief Guest for this momentous occasion was the Special Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Syrus Sajjad Qazi.

Expressing his gratitude, Special Secretary Syrus Sajjad Qazi commended the Embassy of Turkmenistan and Serena Hotels for organizing this remarkable cycling event.

He also praised the Government of Turkmenistan for initiating the resolution at the United Nations General Assembly, designating June 3 as World Bicycle Day.

This global recognition aims to promote a healthier lifestyle, ultimately reducing carbon footprint and noise pollution. Qazi emphasized the urgency of adapting to climate change by adopting greener modes of transportation.

Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of organizing such events more frequently to raise awareness about cycling as an efficient and sustainable mode of transportation.

The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Atadjan Movlamov, acknowledged the significance of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the resolution in 2018, thanks to the initiative of Turkmenistan.

This declaration highlights the bicycle as an instrument of sustainable transportation, conveying a positive message that fosters sustainable consumption and production while positively impacting the climate.

Turkmenistan remains dedicated to strengthening international cooperation in implementing the principles of development and peace.

As one of the first countries to embrace the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and nationalize the Sustainable Development Goals in 2016, Turkmenistan continues to promote a healthy lifestyle and environment-friendly means of transport.

It directly contributes to achieving numerous Sustainable Development Goals. Aziz Boolani, CEO of Serena Hotels, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to fostering an eco-friendly environment.

He highlighted recent initiatives, including the plantation of 600,000 trees across Pakistan, the commissioning of a sewerage treatment plant, and the construction of new hotels in line with the guidelines of the International Finance Corporation’s EDGE Certification.

Boolani expressed gratitude to all the participants for their support, which played a crucial role in the success of this remarkable event.
