Ashgabat, 12 June 2024 (TDI): President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan and President Yun Seok-yeol of the Republic of Korea have commenced negotiations during a two-day state visit to Ashgabat.
Following the official welcoming ceremony, the leaders held a private conversation. Subsequently, negotiations will continue in an expanded format, including members of the government delegations from both countries.
Korean President Yun Seok-yeol’s inaugural visit to Turkmenistan is regarded as a significant event in the history of both nations.
Furthermore, following the high-level Turkmen-Korean negotiations, a ceremony was held to sign bilateral documents.
In the presence of the heads of state, the following documents were signed:
Cooperation Agreement between the State Concern Türkmenhimiýa (Turkmenistan) and Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd (Republic of Korea) on implementing necessary measures and work for the successful commissioning and stable operation of the polymer plant in Kiyanly.
Framework Agreement on Cooperation between the State Concern «Turkmengaz» (Turkmenistan) and «Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd» (Republic of Korea) for the design and “fully-ready construction” of commercial gas preparation facilities with a production capacity of 10 billion cubic meters, including wells, and the acquisition and construction project at stage IV of the «Galkynyş» gas field.
Memorandum of Understanding between the Emergency Care Centre of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the Chilgok Hospital at Kyungpook University of the Republic of Korea.
Memorandum of Understanding between the Scientific and Clinical Centre of Oncology of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the Chilgok Hospital at Kyungpook University of the Republic of Korea.
Memorandum of Understanding between the Ashgabat City Administration and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of the Republic of Korea regarding cooperation in the field of energy infrastructure and the development of new cities.
Memorandum of Understanding between the Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Export-Import Bank of Korea, and the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation.
Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Korea on assistance to the activities of the Joint Commission on Cooperation.
Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Korea on the establishment of a framework for stimulating trade and investment.
Moreover, amid applause, Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Yoon Seok-yeol signed a Joint Statement on the outcomes of President Yoon Seok-yeol’s state visit to Turkmenistan.
After the signing ceremony, the heads of both states addressed the media.

The President of Turkmenistan extended heartfelt gratitude to the President and the entire delegation of the Republic of Korea for the constructive negotiations during the summit, emphasizing the atmosphere of openness, mutual understanding, and trust.
