Ashgabat, 15 March 2022 (TDI): Turkmenistan has elected its new President, Serdar Gurbangulyyevich Berdimuhamedo, through the elections in the country.

Serdar Gurbangulyyevich Berdimuhamedov has gained a 72.97 Percent vote and has been elected as the President of the country.

Organization of Turkic States congratulated the Serdar Gurbangulyyevich Berdimuhamedo for winning the Presidental elections.

Details of the elections

The Turkmenistan Election commission organized a Presidential election in a cheering manner on 12 March from 7:00 to 19:00. The registered voters in Turkmenistan are 34,60,080.

While 33,62,052 voters castes the ballot in support of their respective candidate. The turnout in the presidential election was  97.17 Percent. Total nine candidates competed in the election across the country.

After evaluating the result, on 14 March, Central Election Commission announced Serdar Gurbangulyyevich Berdimuhamedov have won the elections of Turkmenistan. Further, the Central Election Commission announced under article 76 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan. Serdar Berdimuhamedov has taken 72.97% of the presidential election’s total votes.
Moreover, the vice-rector for scientific works of Turkmen state institute of physical culture and sports, Hydyr Kakabayevich Nunnayev, gained 11,09 Percent. He is the runner up and stands at the second position. Likewise, the candidate of the  Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan, Agajan Bekmyradov gained   7.22 Percent votes and stands in the third position.
Serdar Gurbangulyyevich Berdimuhamedov: A Profile 

Serdar Gurbangulyyevich Berdimuhamedov is a young Turkman politician. He belongs to the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan. Earlier, he served many government posts in the gas-rich country of central Asia. Also, Berdimuhamedov serves as Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.

Besides, he is the son of the incumbent Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. Before elections, it was expected that Serdar Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov would win the election with a huge margin.
