Islamabad, 7 June 2023 (TDI): Today, a delegation from Turkmenistan, arrived in Islamabad for a productive two-day visit aimed at advancing the implementation of the TAPI Gas Pipeline Project and the TAP Power Transmission Line Project.

A crucial meeting took place at the Ministry of Energy of Pakistan, attended by representatives from Turkmenistan, including Maksat Babayev, the State Minister and Chairman of State Concern “Turkmengas,” and Annageldi Saparov, the Deputy Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan.

The Pakistani delegation was headed by Khurram Dastgir Khan, the Federal Minister of Energy (Power Division), and Dr. Musadik Malik, the State Minister of Energy (Petroleum Division).

The meeting revolved around an extensive array of topics concerning bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, with a particular focus on Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline and Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan power transmission and fiber-optic communication line (TAP).

Both parties acknowledged significant progress in the practical implementation of the TAPI Project. Notably, the construction of the 214-km long Turkmenistan section of the TAPI pipeline, connecting the Galkynysh gas field in Turkmenistan to the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan border, has been successfully completed.

The TAP power transmission line, which will run parallel to the TAPI gas pipeline, will not only provide electric energy to support the TAPI Gas Pipeline and its facilities but will also play a vital role in meeting Pakistan’s domestic and industrial electricity demand while reducing costs.
