Foreign Minister of Turkey met the Foreign Minister of Brazil during his visit to Latin American Countries

Brasilia, 26 April 2022 (TDI): The Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, is on a visit to Latin America to enhance bilateral ties with Latin American countries. The visit began on 23rd April and will finish on 29th April.

During his trip to Latin America, the Turkish Foreign Minister will visit Uruguay, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, and Venezuela. Furthermore, he will discuss regional and international issues with these countries.

Visit to Uruguay

On 23rd April, the Turkish Foreign Minister visited Uruguay. It was the first visit from Turkey to Uruguay at the level of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Foreign Minister of Uruguay, Francisco Bustillo, welcomed and expressed gratitude to Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu for his visit.

Moreover, they signed the Agreement for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments. It is an instrument to favor the development of business activities and the establishment of capital in productive enterprises.

Likewise, both Ministers agreed on the need to strengthen bilateral trade ties through agreements. Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister also inaugurated the Turkish embassy in Montevideo.

Visit to Brazil

Later, on 24th and 25th, the Turkish Foreign Minister visited Brazil. He was received by the Brazilian Foreign Minister, Carlos Franca. The Ministers held the 4th High-Level Cooperation Commission Meeting. They expressed satisfaction with the current state of the bilateral relations.

Furthermore, the counterparts stressed the need for continued progress in various areas of mutual interest. They also reiterated the need to strengthen cooperation on multilateral forums such as the United Nations, G-20 and OECD.

In addition, Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met the Brazilian business community in São Paulo. They discussed steps to further increase bilateral trade as well as investment opportunities.

Moreover, Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also met President Jair Bolsonaro. They discussed themes of the bilateral agenda, trade, and investment, cooperation in science, technology and defense, tourism, and education.

They also reviewed the regional issues that are of interest to both countries. The Turkish Foreign Minister reiterated that Brazil is Turkey’s first strategic partner and its biggest trade partner in South America. See More

Afterward, he will visit Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela as well. Recently, the Colombian Vice President also visited Turkey. Moreover, Turkey enjoys cordial relations with Venezuela.
