Ankara, 16 November 2021 (TDI): Turkey has spearheaded a diplomatic campaign to improve its strained diplomatic relations with UAE and US. The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, is set to soon visit Ankara. The scheduled visit of UAE’s de facto ruler is coming at a time when both countries are changing diplomatic dispositions.
Turkey-UAE ties
The diplomatic advisor to President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Anwar Gargash, said, “Diplomacy and enhanced communication is the best way forward”. Gargash said that Diplomacy should be way forward instead of confrontation as UAE seeks to mend ties with Iran. He conveyed the message, yesterday, during Abu Dhabi Strategic Debates. UAE’s FM also visited Syria to meet President Bashar Al-Assad for improving ties.
Turkish-Emirati leaders will discuss bilateral ties, trade, regional developments and investments on November 24. The meeting will be the day after the joint business forum held by Turkey and UAE in Dubai on November 23. The preference for economic ties and de-escalation over ideological rifts is a trend-setter and game-changer for the region.
Turkey-Iran ties
The UAE-Turkey ties strained in Libya during 2020 will now receive a boost with visits aimed at bringing peace and stability in the region through dialogue and cooperation. Gargash also stated that increasing Iran-Turkey alignment should be for constructive diplomatic engagement.
The Foreign Ministers of Iran and Turkey announced that a ‘long-term cooperation roadmap’ has been agreeing upon before a meeting of Erdogan-Rouhani. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian yesterday met Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavosoglu in Tehran.
