Washington (TDI): US President Donald Trump has expressed renewed optimism over trade discussions with China, suggesting that both sides may be close to finalizing a deal he described as “very fair.”
While speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the dialogue with Beijing was moving in the right direction.
“We’re making steady progress with China,” he noted. “Everything is moving in sync, and I’m confident we’ll reach an agreement that works well for both countries.”
The remarks followed a lengthy meeting between American and Chinese officials in Stockholm, where negotiators spent over five hours attempting to iron out differences that have fueled one of the most prolonged trade disputes in recent history.

The two countries had previously made some headway in talks held in May and June, agreeing to pause further escalations, including tariffs and restrictions on rare earth materials.
Meanwhile, Trump’s administration has already finalized trade arrangements with partners such as the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Japan.
Earlier, China’s international trade representative and Vice Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang said that both sides engaged openly on key economic and trade concerns, reflecting a shared interest in maintaining stable and productive ties between the world’s two largest economies.
“The discussions were direct and thorough, with both teams addressing sensitive topics in a constructive spirit,” Li said.
A key point on the table was the ongoing pause on 24 percent of reciprocal tariffs imposed by the United States, along with corresponding Chinese countermeasures.

According to Li, both sides agreed on the importance of continuing this suspension as broader negotiations move forward.
Li also confirmed that the delegations reviewed progress made under the Geneva and London trade consensuses, and noted that both countries acknowledged the positive steps taken so far.
