Washington (TDI): US President Donald Trump has said that an agreement with Iran has been “largely negotiated” and that a formal announcement could be made soon.

He said that the deal may include provisions related to reopening the Strait of Hormuz, though he did not share specific details.

Trump said he recently held what he described as a “very good call” with leaders of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and others regarding a broader “Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to peace.” He also confirmed discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that conversation went positively.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson acknowledged that positions between Washington and Tehran had moved closer in recent talks, but warned that major differences still remain. He also accused the US of making inconsistent statements, stressing that convergence does not guarantee an agreement.

Negotiations between the two sides have been ongoing since a ceasefire was reached in early April, following earlier regional tensions that included military strikes and counterattacks involving Iran, Israel, and US-aligned states in the Gulf region.

According to Iranian officials, discussions are now focused on a draft framework that could contain around 14 points. Tehran has indicated that this document could help pave the way for further negotiations within the next one to two months, potentially leading to a final agreement.

US officials have also linked the broader diplomatic effort to security in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil trade passes. Washington says it has taken steps to restrict Iranian maritime activity, while Iran has claimed authority over parts of the waterway.

The situation remains highly sensitive, with both sides continuing to assert competing positions. While diplomatic engagement has increased, significant uncertainties remain over whether a final deal can be reached or implemented in the near future.
