Trump Wants Middle East Countries to Join Abraham Accords

Washington (TDI): US President Donald Trump has called on Middle Eastern nations to join the Abraham Accords, saying broader participation would help secure peace in the region.

In a social media post on Thursday, Trump claimed that Iran’s nuclear weapons program had been “completely wiped out,” adding, “It is now vital for all countries in the Middle East to become part of the Abraham Accords.”

The accords, negotiated during Trump’s first term, led four Muslim-majority countries to establish formal diplomatic relations with Israel under US mediation.

However, attempts to bring more nations into the fold have faced challenges amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, where local health officials report more than 60,000 deaths.

The war has sparked global outrage, prompting Canada, France, and the UK to signal their intention to recognize a Palestinian state.

In 2020, the Trump administration brokered the original accords with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco, marking a significant shift in regional diplomacy.

Trump’s team reportedly has been in talks with Azerbaijan and several Central Asian partners also about joining the agreements, in an effort to strengthen their existing ties with Israel.

Trump’s special envoy for peace missions, Steve Witkoff, traveled to Azerbaijan in March for a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev.

Later in the spring, Aryeh Lightstone, a close aide to Witkoff and a former US envoy to the Abraham Accords, also met with Aliyev.

Both visits reportedly focused, at least in part, on expanding the accords.

While formal announcements remain pending, some involved in the talks believe a deal could materialize within months, or even sooner, if key hurdles are overcome.
