Washington (TDI): US President Donald Trump unveiled a redesigned $5 million “gold card”, aimed at wealthy immigrants seeking residency in the United States.
The initiative, which overhauls the existing EB-5 investor visa program, was announced aboard Air Force One as world markets reeled from Trump’s sweeping tariff plan.
The metallic card features Trump’s own image and offers “green card-plus” privileges, allowing holders to live and work in the country with more benefits.
“For $5 million, this could be yours,” Trump told journalists. “It’s the gold card — the Trump card.”
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the administration sold on thousand cards in a single week last month, raising $5 billion in one day.
The program targets high-net-worth persons and exempts cardholders from paying US tax on foreign income, distinguishing it from standard residency pathways.

Trump first revealed the concept in February, describing it as a faster, more profitable alternative to the long-backlogged EB-5 system.
The new initiative effectively allows foreign citizens to “buy in” to US residency amid strict immigration enforcement.
The announcement coincided with steep stock market losses following Trump’s international tariff overhaul.
When asked about the impact, President Trump compared the American economy to “a sick patient” undergoing surgery.

“It’s gonna be a booming nation,” he said. “We see it because we have trillions of dollars committed to come in.”
In February, Trump announced a new immigration initiative, proposing a “gold card” visa program that would offer American residency and a pathway to nationality for investors willing to pay $5 million.
The initiative, which Trump said would be launched within two weeks, is likely to replace the existing EB-5 investor visa program.
