Ottawa (TDI): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the President of the European Council, António Costa, right after the European Council’s informal European Union (EU) leaders retreat on 3rd February 2025.
In this regard, both leaders have highlighted the mutual relationship between Canada and the European Union, focused on people-to-people connection and investment partnership.
In this sense, both leaders have emphasized continued cooperation to elevate security and economic prosperity from both sides of the people.

Moreover, Trudeau discussed the imposition of the recent tariffs by the United States on Canadian goods. He also talked about Canada’s retaliatory response. This official meeting happened when United States President Donald Trump initiated the tariffs action against Canada, Mexico, and China.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau started tit-for-tat tariff actions against the United States right after Trump imposed levies on Canadian goods.
According to the Canadian Foreign Minister,
“Canada will not be backing down from its actions and these retaliatory actions will be scaled up as needed.’’
In addition, Ontario has declared that the U.S. products will be removed from Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) shelves as of Tuesday.
