Kabul, 20 June 2022 (TDI): National Security Advisor and Special Representative of the President for Foreign Policy of Uzbekistan, Abdul Aziz Kamilov held a meeting with Afghan Interior Minister, Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani in Kabul on Sunday.

The meeting

During the meeting, the Afghan Representative praised Kamilov for the positive role he had played in Afghanistan as the Foreign Minister. In addition, Haqqani congratulated him on his new responsibility and wished him well.

They discussed Afghan-Uzbek bilateral relations, the current situation, enhanced transit, and trade.

Also, the meeting included negotiation on security in Afghanistan and Kamilov highlighted the interconnectedness of Afghanistan’s security to that of his country.

Kamilov urged the Interior Minister to ensure the performance of the Termez-Mazar-e-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway operation.

Likewise, he emphasized the railway operation’s ability to play a vital role in the economic prosperity of both regions.

Minister Haqqani assured that the security forces would pay attention to all national projects, for the most part, those carried out by Uzbekistan.

Kamilov added that the two parties work closely on bilateral trade as well as better transit.

He also pointed out the upcoming high-level political and economic conference between regional and world countries and institutions hosted by Uzbekistan in July. In addition to this, he invited Foreign Minister Muttaqi to attend.

On the other side, Minister Muttaqi expressed gratitude to the Uzbekistan government for their cooperation with the people of Afghanistan. Namely, in political, economic, and humanitarian areas.

Furthermore, he uttered satisfaction concerning the dominant good neighborliness environment between them.

Muttaqi underlined the need to adapt to changing international order and make use of it in a positive way.

More to this, he stated that the delegation of Afghanistan headed by the Ministry of Trade was ready to visit Uzbekistan. Thus, to discuss enhanced trade to build economic self-reliance.

Conclusively, both sides affirmed the continuation of these meetings in order to make positive progress in the common interests of the two countries.
