President Tokayev Unveils Vision for a Digital Kazakhstan

Astana (TDI): President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Wednesday outlined ambitious plans to transform Kazakhstan into a digitally advanced nation, placing artificial intelligence at the center of the country’s development strategy.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the CICA headquarters in Astana, President Tokayev said the country is pursuing a broad modernization push in infrastructure, energy, transport, and digital sectors, working closely with international partners.

“We are actively upgrading railways, highways, seaports, and transit routes,” Tokayev noted, highlighting that improved logistics and connectivity will lay the groundwork for Kazakhstan’s long-term growth.

A key part of that vision, he said, is building a digitally empowered economy. “Digital transformation and AI are crucial to Kazakhstan’s future competitiveness,” the president stated.

“Our aim is to become a fully digital country, where artificial intelligence not only fuels innovation but also protects our digital sovereignty.”

To move in that direction, Tokayev announced the launch of a supercomputer and the establishment of a Council for the Development of Artificial Intelligence to help shape national AI strategy.

Beyond technology, he emphasized the importance of modernizing agriculture, calling it another strategic pillar for economic diversification and national food security.

“We’re building a sustainable economy that’s fully integrated into global value chains and aligned with climate and development goals,” Tokayev said.

He also stressed the value of international cooperation, particularly with the diplomatic community, in achieving these goals.
