Mesa County (TDI): Tina Peters, a former county clerk in Colorado who has been a strong supporter of the conspiracy theory that massive vote fraud caused Donald Trump to lose the 2020 election, received a nine-year prison sentence on Thursday.
In August, Peters, 68, was found guilty on several counts, including conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, assault of a public official, duty violation, and noncompliance with state election regulations.
Tina Peters received a harsh rebuke at her sentencing from US Judge Matthew Barrett, who said, “You are no hero. You are a con artist who has been disproven time and time again and utilized your office to flog fake snake oil. I do not doubt that you would lie again if given the chance, as your record is extensive.”

The judge rejected a request from Peters’ attorney for probation. And Peters was taken into custody right away. Peters received a sentence of nine years in prison, although the prosecution had requested a maximum penalty of twenty years.
Peters faced allegations due to her involvement in a voting system hack in her county. She faced accusations of gaining illegal access to Mesa County’s election system by using someone else’s security badge.
The person who carries the badge was purportedly associated with Mike Lindell, the CEO of MyPillow and a prominent proponent of the theory that ballot fraud caused Trump’s defeat in the 2020 elections.

Furthermore, Dominion Voting Systems, the business that makes the voting equipment used in Mesa County, was falsely accused by Peters of being involved in a plot to rig the results against Trump.
Barrett referred to Peters as “as defiant a defendant as this court has ever seen,” highlighting the seriousness of her crimes and the possible danger that her acts posed to the integrity of the democratic process.
