Beijing/Rome, 8 September 2021 (TDI): The President of China Xi Jinping talked with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi by telephone, on 7 September. During the conversation, Xi Jinping pointed out that the two states already have friendly relations in mutually benefited areas. Now, Beijing is ready to enhance its beneficial partnership with Italy. He also suggested deep bilateral collaboration in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Moreover, he stressed strengthening bilateral relations by cooperating in culture and tourism as the year 2022 is marked as the China-Italy Year of Culture and Tourism. Meanwhile, he encouraged Italy to extend its role in promoting China-EU relations. He also expected both sides to support each other in the Winter Olympics.
The President of China expressed high appreciation for Italy’s assistance in global cooperation. While talking about the G20 Rome Summit, he urged the G20 member states to adopt multilateralism for best results in an anti-COVID fight, restoration of the economy, tackle common challenges, modernization of global governance, and achieving sustainable development goals (SDG).
The Prime Minister of Italy acknowledged that relations of both countries are based on win-win cooperation. While assuring Italy’s enhanced cooperation, Mario Draghi affirmed China’s influential involvement in the Afghanistan issue and climate change. He put a high value on China-Italy diplomatic relations.
