Thailand, Singapore co-chair 2nd Political Consultations

Singapore, 15 November 2021 (TDI): Singapore and Thailand co-chaired 2nd political consultations today; through a video conference.

The Permanent Secretary Chee Wee Kiong of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore; represented his country in the meeting.

While, Permanent Secretary Thani Thongphakdi of Thailand represented his country in bilateral consultations. The two secretaries accentuated the enduring partnership between the two states. They also pledged to enhance cooperation in post-pandemic future.

Both sides appreciated the mutual cooperation to tackle the Covid-19 situation; such as medical supplies. Singapore and Thailand will also open borders to facilitate the resumption of business activities.

Discussing sustainable development, the secretaries evaluated Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 and Thailand’s BCG Economy Model.

The two also held wide-ranging discussions on regional and international developments. Stressing over ASEAN centrality, the parties expressed commitment to deepen economic integration through the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and APEC. Singapore reaffirmed its commitment to support Thailand in its Chairmanship of APEC in 2022.
