Tehran, 30 July 2022 (TDI): The President of Iran, Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi, held a telephone conversation with his counterpart from China, Xi Jinping, on Friday afternoon.

During the one-hour telephone conversation, both presidents discussed major international and regional developments and emphasized strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The Iranian President referred to the United States’ interference in the internal affairs of the countries. He said that this is a continuation of the US’s destructive policy of unilateralism and that this has now become a threat to global peace and security.
In addition, President Raisi also emphasized national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He described them as fundamental pillars of Iran’s foreign policy.
He further reiterated Iran’s support for the One China principle and described the support as a definitive and principled policy of Iran.
The Iranian President further stressed Iran’s determination to develop relations with China regardless of international developments.
President Raisi also pointed to independent cooperation based on the national interests of the sovereign countries as the correct model of governance at the regional and international levels.
The leader of Iran also emphasized the need for justice and fairness to prevail in the emerging international order.
He welcomed the development of multilateral economic cooperation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and the BRICS group.
Chinese President’s stance
In response, Chinese President Xi Jinping also appreciated the cooperation between Iran and China in the international arena.
He further highlighted the mutual support of the two countries for each other’s positions in regional and international arenas.
President Xi pointed out the importance of maintaining regional stability and the constructive role of Iran in this regard. He also emphasized that China does not support the policy of pressure and unilateralism.
The President of China also talked about the strategic importance of China-Iran relations. He also noted China’s efforts to further develop these relations.
Moreover, the Chinese President said,
“The implementation of the 25-year comprehensive cooperation document between the two countries is a big step in this direction, and on this basis, I am issuing the necessary orders for the development of all-round strategic relations with Iran, including in the economic field”.
