Washington: July 26, 2021 – (TDI): The Secretary of the United States of America, Antony J. Blinken had a telephonic conversation with Pedro Castillo, the President-elect of Peru. During his conversation, he congratulated the Peruvian people for the electoral process, reflective of a thriving democracy. He expressed his gratitude to Peru for its support regarding the crisis of Venezuela. He further expressed his hope that Peru will similarly address the worsening situations of Cuba and Nicaragua. He reiterated the US determination to assist Peru in its fight against the pandemic while highlighting the US donation of two million Covid-19 vaccine doses, hospitals, ventilators, cold storage units, and protective equipment. He stressed the strong bilateral economic relationship, and the mutual determination to promote economic success, safeguarding the environment, tending to the climate crisis, promoting public health, and enhancing educational opportunities for everyone. He further appreciated Peru’s work against illegal logging, illegal mining, narcotics smuggling, human trafficking, and corruption. On the occasion of Peru’s bicentennial, Secretary Blinken enjoyed the historic and durable partnership between both nations.
