Islamabad 1st August, 2024 (TDI):The first half of 2024 saw a surge in cyberattacks, with the telecom, media, and construction industries being the most targeted sectors. According to a report by Kaspersky, a leading global cybersecurity company, these industries are attractive targets for cybercriminals due to the sensitive data they hold.
In the telecom sector, 284 cyber security incidents occurred per 10,000 systems, making it the most vulnerable industry. Media companies faced 180 attacks per 10,000 systems, followed by industrial development, food, and industrial manufacturing with 179, 122, and 121 incidents respectively.
Sergey Soldatov, Head of Kaspersky MDR, warned that a successful attack on a telecom company could provide access to millions of users’ records, including contact details, social security numbers, and credit card information. Kaspersky, with its expertise in cybersecurity, has been tracking and analyzing cyber threats globally.
Telecom companies faced the most severe incidents, with 32 attacks per 10,000 systems. Soldatov explained that “critical incidents are human-triggered attacks or malware threats that have a potential or actual impact on a company’s core infrastructure.”
To protect businesses from cyber threats, Kaspersky recommends adopting robust endpoint protection, using corporate-grade security solutions, conducting regular compromise detection, and implementing incident response plans.
