Tashkent (TDI): Tashkent is hosting an international scientific and practical conference on “Water Diplomacy in Central Asia: Trust, Dialogue and Multilateral Cooperation for Sustainable Development” today, bringing together regional and global stakeholders to discuss collaborative approaches for sustainable water resource management.
The event is organized by the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan together with the Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan and “TIIAME” National Research University with the support of Friedrich Ebert Foundation, International Water Management Institute, the German Agency for International Cooperation, and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
The unique platform will unite more than hundred participants from over ten countries and for the first time will gather on one site prominent experts from all nations of the Aral Sea basin, including specialists from strategic institutions and water management agencies of Central Asia, Afghanistan, as well as the CIS, Asia and Europe.
The event will also be attended by representatives of diplomatic missions in Uzbekistan and delegations from about fifteen international and regional organizations, including the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia, the Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination, and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.

In recent years, water diplomacy has become the most important source of promoting an effective model of water collaboration development in Central Asia.
In this regard, interesting dialogues and productive exchange of views are expected with elaboration with multiple proposals and recommendations for expanding this area of collaboration.

The conference will be a major contribution of Central Asian nations to the development of conceptual frameworks for water diplomacy, boosting their positions as active participants in shaping the global water cooperation agenda.
The event will be held at the TIIAME National Research University as part of the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the unique educational institution, with nearly three hundred domestic and foreign scientists over twenty nations participating.
