Back home in Pakistan, US Chargé d’Affaires ad interim (CDA), Natalie A. Baker, has been meeting important government functionaries in Islamabad. Most recently, she met Chairman of Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani. Earlier she also had meetings with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
In January, the last US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, completed his tenure and Natalie Baker, the former Deputy Chief of Mission, assumed charge as an interim Chargé d’Affaires.
Since Donald Trump assumed office as the President, Pakistan and US have been marginally interacting. Trump’s policies on immigrants caused confusion in Pakistan and among Pakistanis living in the US. However, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar streamlined talks with the US to resolve consular and visa issues.
