Taliban Disappointed over US Giving Aircrafts to Uzbekistan

Islamabad, 03 September 2024 (TDI): Washington has decided to give the 46 US military aircrafts, landed in emergency in Central Asian Countries when the foreign forces had to left Kabul in urgency in 2021, to Uzbekistan.

On August 15, 2021 when Taliban were freely entering Kabul the last foreign forces were fleeing from Kabul and landed some helicopters and aero planes in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan’s Termez city.

Out of the total foreign military equipment’s, 22 planes and 24 helicopters remained at Termez in the last three years. The ownership of these equipment, however, had yet to be decided.

According to The TIMES of Central Asia ownership of the 46 US military aircrafts at Termez city have been decided now and most of these aircrafts are going to Uzbekistan and south of Uzbek borders Afghanistan.

Taliban has been claiming ownership of all the military equipment that were left behind when the government in Kabul was ousted in 2021.

This decision of the US government to hand over the military aircrafts to Uzbekistan has upset Taliban in Kabul, The Times of Central Asia reported.

In 2022 Taliban had requested Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to return all the aircrafts to Kabul. The then Defence Minister of Taliban Molvi Mohammad Yaqoob, son of Taliban Supreme leader Mullah Mohammad Omer even threatened the two countries if the air crafts were not returned.

Later on Taliban’s language was soften as ties between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan improves but their claim over the aircrafts never abandoned.

The US officials has also expressed intention to give some of the aircrafts to Tajikestan. Taliban are in utmost need of assistance and military technology since they running government and administration of Afghanistan and they are no more mere a militant force, experts maintain.

They need financial sources for development in the country as well.
