Tajikistan Take Charge Of CIS Presidency in 2025

St. Petersburg, (TDI): Russia handed over the status of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) presidency for 2025 to the Republic of Tajikistan during the informal summit of the CIS in Igora Resort, Russia.

The Head of States of CIS member states gathered to mark the CIS tradition of pre-new Year celebrations before the Summit of Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) happens on December 26, 2024.

Agenda 

The session was chaired by the President of the Republic of Russia, Vladimir Putin, among other Head of State of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The meeting was arranged to sum up the following targets by Russia.

  • Review report of Russian chairmanship of CIS in 2024
  • Discuss the Preparation of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day set to be organized in Moscow
  • Exchange devoirs to the Republic of Tajikistan for taking the Presidency of CIS in 2025

The discussion of the CIS leaders focused on enhancing intra-regional trade and fostering partnerships in engineering education, digital solutions, big data, creative economy, and green energy.

This informal summit marked the continuing CIS tradition of annual New Year celebrations.

As a part of this event, the guest first visited the museum of the Pavlovsk Palace, where the Special Presidential Representative arranged a small concert for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi.

The event concluded with an informal meeting at the Constantine Palace in Strelna.

Following is the summary of Putin’s press briefing while reviewing Russia’s CIS chairmanship.

  • For the Eurasian Integrational development, priority was given to economic interaction and transportation of free goods by eliminating trade barriers.
  • %10.6 Joint trade turnover increased by just $93 billion.
  • By the end of 2024, GDP growth in CIS countries is forecast at 4.7%.
  • Monetary and financial cooperation Expanded in terms of an Independent payment system.
  • The share of national currencies exceeded 85%.

Tajikistan

The Commonwealth countries are increasingly cooperating to combat extremism, cross-border crime, and trafficking, adopting similar approaches for key global and regional issues.

Bilateral Meeting

The day before the summit, in the Leningrad region, the President of the Republic of Russia, Vladimir Putin, had a meeting with the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rehmon, to discuss the current state and prospects of Tajik-Russian relationships.

President Rehmon hailed that the trade and economic partnership increased by 19.8% reaching $1.79 Billion.

A fruitful discussion also took place on the development of cooperation in the regional and international organisations, including CIS. It delivered regards for the new chairmanship to the President of Tajikistan.
