New York, 07 October 2021 (TDI): Swiss Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Pascale Baeriswyl met Martin Griffiths. Griffiths is the Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator of the United Nations.
The two officials exchange their views on issues related to Human Rights and Human security. The two officials discussed challenging around the globe, including the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. They discussed imminent threats to these populations, like hunger and post-conflict economic crisis.
The Swiss representative reaffirmed her country’s support for the UN missions around the globe and towards addressing global human security issues. Pascale Baeriswyl stated that her country is a strong partner with UN in New York and Geneva.
In May 2021, Martin Griffiths was designated as Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. In his short time in office, Griffiths dealt with challenging humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, the refugee influx in Baltic states from Belarus, and the dire humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
