The upcoming year 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the Stockholm Conference held in 1972. It was the first Conference on Human Environment by the UN that resulted in the creation of UNEP and World Environment Day, on June 5th every year.
Central Theme of the World Environment Day 2022
According to UNEP, the theme of 2022’s Environment Day will be “Only One Earth”. The Stockholm Conference held in 1972 also had the same theme.
Having the same motto after 50 years highlights the significance of living sustainably by shifting policies towards a green and clean environment. Additionally, the motto is still true and relevant after 50 years.

World Environment Day
World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 6th June since the Stockholm Conference in 1972. It is one of the UN’s “flagship” days that are celebrated globally to promote action and awareness for the environment.
Since 1972, the day has become a vital global platform for promoting actions for the environment and SDGs. Each year about 150 countries with UNEP celebrate the day.
