Los Angeles (TD): James Gunn’s Superman has officially passed the $300 million mark at North American box offices, a first for DC Studios under its new regime.
The movie passed the milestone in early Thursday morning, fueled by solid East Coast matinées, following Wednesday at a domestic total $299.7 million.
It is the first DC film over $300 million since Matt Reeves’ The Batman in 2022, which closed with $369.2 million. Gunn’s Superman has also overtaken 2013’s Man of Steel, which made $291 million in the US, and will probably overtake Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($330.4 million), a benchmark for the series.
Worldwide, Superman has already crossed $500 million, ranking it among the highest-grossing films of 2025. It is among a few titles this year to cross $300 million in domestic box office, joining the likes of Minecraft: The Movie, Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, and Jurassic World Rebirth.
The film is particularly important to Gunn and Peter Safran because it is their first film after taking charge of DC Studios.

The film’s box office and critical victory, registering an A CinemaScore and more than 90% audience rating, indicate restored audience confidence in the DC franchise after recent failures like The Flash and Blue Beetle.
However, the box office is packed. Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Step, which debuted last weekend to $117.6 million in the domestic market, brings tough competition. It’s performing on par with Superman in early international box office and received equally positive reviews.
Both movies, despite the competition, are revitalizing the superhero franchise after a string of lackluster entries across the board. Superman is not only a box office success, but also symbolic of a reboot for DC, bringing new life to a franchise long ruled by its Marvel counterpart.
As Superman started its fourth weekend, industry observers are keeping a close eye on it. As the film continues to attract viewers and earn praise, Superman can continue to redefine what a successful superhero reboot in modern movies is all about.
