Cairo, 22 May 2023 (TDI): Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of the Sultanate of Oman arrived in the Arab Republic of Egypt on a two-day official visit on May 21.
The visit marks an important occasion for strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The purpose of the visit is to strengthen bilateral ties in various fields, including the economy, commerce, and investment.
Both countries aim to increase trade and explore investment opportunities, particularly in renewable energy and green hydrogen.
An official session of talks was held between His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Abdel Fattah El Sisi at El Ittihadiya Palace.
The two leaders reviewed the historical bonds between Oman and Egypt, explored avenues for bilateral cooperation, and discussed regional and international developments.
The session was attended by high-level officials from both sides, representing various ministries and departments.
The visit involved the signing of agreements and memorandam of understanding to enhance economic cooperation. Additionally, cultural collaboration between Oman and Egypt was also highlighted, with recognition given to Egyptian teachers contributing to Oman’s educational progress.
The meeting between Sultan Haitham and President Abdul Fattah el Sisi is expected to advance the long-standing relationship between Oman and Egypt on multiple levels, including political, economic, commercial, cultural, and social matters.
Furthermore, the two leaders also discussed regional and international issues of common concern, emphasizing the need for coordination and cooperation to ensure peace, security, and stability in the region.
The volume of trade between Oman and Egypt has seen a significant increase, reflecting the positive investment climate in Oman and the country’s efforts to attract foreign investors. Also, the shared political views of both nations are based on principles of security, peace, and adherence to international law.

In addition, as a symbol of mutual respect and appreciation, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik was conferred with the “Order of the Nile,” Egypt’s highest decoration, by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
In return, He presented the Egyptian President with the “Oman First Order,” expressing his appreciation for the deep fraternal relations between the two nations.
To commemorate the visit, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi hosted an official dinner at El Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo, attended by the official delegations from both Oman and Egypt.
