21 August 2024 (TDI): With thrilling festivities and exhibits, the Hungarian Defense Forces are getting ready for St. Stephen’s Day. A military equipment display in City Park and an air parade over the Parliament are two of the festivities’ planned events.
On August 16 and 20, low-altitude aircraft and helicopter flights over Budapest will result in audible disruptions related to noise. The main event, which is slated for August 20 between 9 and 10 a.m., will take place after the dress rehearsal on August 16 from 10 to 11 a.m.
The parade will begin on August 20 at 8:30 a.m. with a flyover by three Gripen fighter planes from the Kecskemét Air Brigade.
Beginning on August 18, guests to City Park will be able to see contemporary military hardware, such as Gidrán combat vehicles, Leopard 2A7HU tanks, PzH2000 self-propelled artillery, and Lynx combat vehicles. On August 17 and 18, there is anticipated to be a surge in military vehicle traffic on several routes that impact key highways and parts of the Budapest entrance.
Once the celebrations of St. Stephen’s Day are over, the military gears will retrace its steps. The public is asked to be patient and understanding during this time, as the Defense Forces work to minimize disruptions.
