Colombo, 28 September 2021 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Gamini Lakshman Peiris held a meeting with the High Commissioner of the UK to Sri Lanka, Sarah Hulton.
They led a wide-ranging and open discussion. During the meeting, Minister Peiris and the UK Envoy discussed several crucial issues concerning the two nations’ close bilateral relationship. High Commissioner Hulton expressed concern about a number of high-profile Sri Lankan instances that are currently drawing attention. Some of these issues were raised during Sri Lanka’s continuous participation with the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Several significant issues affecting future Sri Lanka-UK bilateral relations were reviewed. It included the Sri Lankan government’s recent initiatives to encourage and develop national reconciliation measures. Institutions dealing with national unity and reconciliation, accountability, and reparations were among them. Sri Lankan leader expressed his gratitude for the two countries’ strong and significant relationship. He is hopeful that the fruitful and productive alliance will continue.
