COLOMBO 22nd August, 2024 (TDI): The government of Sri Lanka has announced visa-free access to the citizens from 35 countries into the South Asian country.
Adviser to the Ministry of Tourism, Harin Fernando, confirmed that this visa-free policy will take effect from October 1. The countries include Iran, India and Nepal.
Nepal is among the countries included in this new policy. M U M Ali Sabry, Sri Lanka’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, shared the list of eligible countries on his X account, describing the move as a preliminary step towards a broader visa-free regime.
Nepal’s Foreign Secretary, Sewa Lamsal, expressed gratitude on social media for Nepal’s inclusion in the visa-free list.
According to Sri Lankan media, the decision was made during a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The policy will be in effect from October 1, 2024, for six months.

The list of 35 countries includes the United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Australia, Denmark, Poland, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Nepal, China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, France, the United States, Canada, Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Israel, Belarus, Iran, Sweden, South Korea, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and New Zealand.
