The Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly, Asad Qaiser along with his delegation met with the Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan’s Mili Majlis, Sahiba Garfarova, on Friday.
First, the speakers met for a face-to-face discussion. Both sides stressed the importance of the Baku Declaration and the first trilateral meeting of the Speakers of the Parliaments of Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Turkey. The delegations then met in a more formal setting in an expanded format.
The Milli Majlis speaker stressed that the heads of state have a special responsibility in promoting friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries. We are bringing our people closer to each other, noted Sahiba Garfarova. For his part, Asad Qaiser spoke about the significance of the Baku Declaration, signed at the trilateral conference, and reiterated Pakistan’s position on the Karabakh issue, stating that Azerbaijan’s legitimate struggle has always been supported by Pakistan. Both sides expressed confidence that the high-level political interaction would also have an impact on the cultural, humanitarian, and economic spheres.
At the end of the meeting, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of the Pakistan Asad Qaiser signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Pakistan.
Sahiba Gafarov said that this Memorandum of Understanding is a new chapter in the inter-parliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan.
