Palestinian African Heads of Mission Conference
The Minister was invited to speak at the Palestinian African Heads of Mission Conference. The conference was organized to show solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
In her speech, Minister Pandor emphasized a great deal on solving human rights problems faced by Palestinians in the occupied territories. She stated that South Africa will continuously pressurize the occupation forces of Israel.
The decades-long conflict between Israel and Palestine over territories has put millions of lives at stake.
The conflict has caused huge suffering for the Palestinians with the loss of lives and precious land.
The Minister however believed that through negotiations, continuous dialogues, mediation, and compromise both the states could reach a solution.
Minister also mentioned how in the case of Ukraine the support by the West has somewhat impacted the crisis. She added that if the Palestinians are shown the same kind of support then possible solutions for this issue can also be explored.
Official condemnation of the state of Israel
The minister condemned the decision of the African Union’s Commission to grant Israel the status of an observer.
Recalling how Israel has clearly defied United Nations resolutions and continues to do so by occupying illegal territories designated to Palestine according to the U.N mandate, she urged it shouldn’t be given any such privileges.
The minister has also clearly stated that South Africa will resume its support in the future for Palestine. The creation of an independent Palestinian state which would be at peace with Israel would also be supported. However, all of this should be according to the U.N recognized borders without any illegally occupied territories.
Minister Pandor has proclaimed that for the peaceful Middle East the peaceful solution to one of its biggest political and territorial conflicts is very significant. She underscored restoring the legal human rights of Palestinians and implementing the Two-State solution.
