Islamabad, 19 October 2021 (TDI): Ambassador of Somalia to Pakistan, Khadija Mohamed Almakhzoumi, met Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi. The meeting took place on 18 October at Naval Headquarters Islamabad.

During the meeting, both officials discussed matters of mutual interest. They also deliberated over the regional security dynamics. In addition, the two sides exchanged views on enhancing bilateral maritime cooperation between Pakistan and Somalia.

The Somalian ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s Navy role in maintaining regional peace and stability. The two officials pledged to enhance bilateral defense relations between the two countries.

Pakistan and Somalia share cordial diplomatic relations based on mutual trust and solidarity. The two countries established official diplomatic relations in 1960. In 1976, Somalia established its embassy in Islamabad. Also,  Both countries are among the founding members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) . Moreover, during the Somalian Civil War in 1990s, Pakistan’s military contributed in Peace Keeping missions in the country.

To boost bilateral relations, Pakistan and Somalia signed an MoU in 2018. Additionally, in 2020, Pakistan Air Force agreed to provide military training to the Somali Air force.
