California (TDI): This week, Snapchat will introduce its new “Footsteps” function to all iOS users, as it was previously available to Snapchat+ subscribers.
According to a TechCrunch story, this feature tracks users’ journeys and shows how much of the world they’ve explored using Snap Map.

Footsteps use information from users’ saved Snaps in Memories to determine past trip activities when they first activate the app.
In the future, the feature will use location data in real-time to provide personalized journey footprints on a map.
The Ghost Mode on Snap Map must be disabled to use Footsteps. That means only the user can see their monitored movements by default, making the feature private. Furthermore, users can always use their profile settings to remove or deactivate tracking of their travel information.

Snapchat distinguishes itself from rivals Instagram and TikTok with its efforts to improve Snap Map. Although Instagram has stated it is developing a “Friends Map,” the two platforms do not yet have a comparable function.
Snapchat has confirmed that Footsteps will soon be accessible on Android.
