The sixth China-Cambodia film tour, which aims to promote cultural relations and the film industry, began in Phnom Penh on Thursday, December 8.

Phnom Penh, 10 December 2022 (TDI): The sixth China-Cambodia film tour, which aims to promote cultural relations and the film industry, began in Phnom Penh on Thursday, December 8.

This year’s film tour will feature three Chinese movies all dubbed into Khmer and two Cambodian productions.

The yearly film tour was launched at Phnom Penh’s famous Chaktomuk Theatre. This was done by Chinese Ambassador Wang Wentian and adviser to the Cambodian government Ek Sam Ol.

Sam Ol stated that the free event would enhance mutual understanding and cultural interchange between the two nations. Additionally, he said this will help to advance the film business.

Furthermore, hundreds of people attended the ceremony. Sam Ol said, “The sixth China-Cambodia film tour will serve as a bridge to promote the exchanges of culture and arts between the peoples of the two nations.”

He continued, “It will also help to further deepen the friendly relations between China and Cambodia”.

In addition, Sam Ol, who is also the head of the Cambodia-China Friendship Association, welcomed the relationship between the two countries. He emphasized how it had facilitated Cambodia’s socioeconomic progress and the reduction of poverty.

At the occasion, Wang said that the movies would soon be shown in “open-air cinemas” in the provinces of Battambang, Pursat, and Kampong Chhnang.

The China-Cambodia film tour, he said, has “increasingly grown in popularity among Cambodian people since 2016. It has also become an essential platform to link the hearts of our two peoples.”

Moreover, he continued, “We believe that the film tour would improve the cinema experience for Cambodian viewers. This will also create understanding between the people of the two countries”.

China-Cambodia Friendship Radio

In this regard, in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia and the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the China-Cambodian Friendship Radio arranged the event.

According to the China-Cambodian Friendship Radio, the China-Cambodia film tour has exhibited more than 100 movies in all 25 of Cambodia’s towns and provinces since it began in 2016, drawing more than 100,000 spectators overall.
