Sinovac to create presence in Chile

Antofagasta, 25 July 2021 (TDI): The Chilean government ministers met with executives from Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac in Antofagasta to discuss the company’s plan to expand its presence to Chile.

The Chilean Health Minister, Enrique Paris said that the group visited a plot of land 28 km north of the city of Antofagasta, which could prove to be a site for the creation of COVID-19 vaccines in the future. The Health Minister also stated that the construction of the plant would is estimated to be completed by the end of 2022, allowing the plant to be put into operation in 2023. He said that it would require an investment of about 60 million U.S. dollars and that the plant could produce vaccines not only for Chile but also for the rest of Latin America.

Sinovac Vice President Meng Weining said that the company had achieved production of 4 billion doses (of vaccine) per year and has carried out clinical studies in Chile, which has reaffirmed the excellence of Chilean medical and scientific teams.
