Sima Sami Bahous of Jordan appointed as Executive Director of UN Women

Geneva, 14 September 2021 (TDI): On Monday 13th-September-2021, United Nations appoints New Executive Director of UN Women.

Secretary-General of UN António Guterres appointed Sima Sami Bahous of Jordan for the auspicious task. Sima Sami Bahous is the first Arab woman to hold this position.

Sima Simi Bahous of Jordon worked tirelessly for the rights of women and girls. She advocated gender equality as well as youth Empowerment for over 35 years. Sima Sami Bahous previously has functioned as Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations in New York.

The new appointment was made on Monday after a prolonged discussion among the member states and the Executive Board of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women.

Sima Sami Bahous of Jordan appointed as Executive Director of UN Women is succeeding Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka (Former Executive Director of UN Women).

The Secretary-General António Guterres also acknowledged the Pramila Patten United Nations Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict. Pramila Patten will work as the Acting Executive Director till the newly appointed Executive Director of UN Women takes up her position.
