Shenzhen (TDI): The Shenzhen University of China has officially inaugurated the Center for Pakistan Studies. Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, inaugurated the institute in the presence of the President of Shenzhen University, Mao Junfa.
The Center for Pakistan Studies marks a new venture in academic engagement between Pakistan and the People’s Republic of China.
The Center would focus on academic cooperation and deepening mutual understanding between Pakistan and China through research, educational exchange, and dialogue; particularly in areas of new and emerging technologies.
During the inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Hashmi thanked the leadership of Shenzhen University for its strong commitment and support for the initiative.
He also highlighted the growing momentum of Pakistan-China relations across various domains, including academic and research cooperation.
He noted that Shenzhen, which is known globally for technological innovation and reform, was a suitable place for setting up a center dedicated to studying Pakistan.
He also highlighted the importance of academic platforms in strengthening long-term people to people linkages.
He expressed satisfaction at the inauguration of the Center for Pakistan Studies, whose originally idea surfaced a year ago, during the Ambassador’s meeting with the University leadership.

The Center is expected to become a hub for promoting Pakistan-focused research and programs, business to business collaboration, and student engagement.
Many Chinese universities have Urdu departments which offer Urdu language courses just like the Chinese learning centers and courses in Pakistani universities.
Pakistan’s Embassy in Beijing provides a list of Pakistan study and research centers on its website, housed inside Chinese universities.
These centers are based in top Chinese universities of science and technology, politics and law, social sciences, arts, international studies, and universities which offer a range of subjects.
Academic collaborations between China and Pakistan go back a long way. The perspective has shifted among Pakistani higher education students who now increasingly choose China as their study destination, for postgraduate and doctoral studies.
