New York (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday called on United Kingdom (UK) Keir Starmer on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The two dignitaries agreed to promote bilateral relations in various sectors, including trade and investment, state-run Radio Pakistan reported.
PM Shehbaz apprised his UK counterpart of the current economic situation of the country and highlighted the government’s measures for economic development, especially reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue and enhancing tax base.

Shehbaz underlined the adverse impact of climate change faced by the country. The premier also outlined the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the war against terror.
“Terrorism is a global issue and the international community will have to work for the elimination of this menace jointly,” he said.
The premier said the United Kingdom was the third largest country with investments in Pakistan and highlighted various investment opportunities in the country.

While mentioning the significant role of the Pakistani diaspora in the Kingdom in the development of both countries, the premier expressed a desire to utilise their contributions effectively to achieve mutual development goals.
PM Shehbaz is on a five-day official visit to the US to attend the 79th UNGA session. The premier is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on Friday. But before that, he will hold multiple bilateral meetings.
Earlier in the day, the premier met with Bill Gates, the founder and co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

During the meeting, he highlighted Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the complete eradication of polio from the country.
On Wednesday, PM Shehbaz met with the Bangladesh Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, as well as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
