Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday thanked political parties and their leaders, especially from the Opposition benches, for supporting the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
He made these remarks while chairing today’s federal cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister’s House.
“This amendment was essential for judicial reforms and improving the justice system,” the premier said, adding: “The 26th Amendment completes the Charter of Democracy signed in 2006.”

PM Shehbaz also lauded the successful hosting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting last week and praised the efforts of the relevant institutions involved.
He, however, expressed concern over the rising polio cases in the country and sought a detailed report on the situation.
PM Shehbaz also directed authorities concerned to formulate a comprehensive strategy to combat polio and called for an emergency meeting to address the issue.

The cabinet also approved the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Bill 2024, which will now be sent to the Cabinet Committee for Legislative Cases.
This bill aims to establish an institutional framework to prevent domestic violence. It will also ensure that those guilty of domestic abuse receive appropriate punishment.
